Hello, Enlightening site, especially liked the article about painting being dead….When I had taken my BFA degree….i was one of the few who spent hours and hours …ALONE…in my studio painting….and when it came time to graduate…the graduate show….it was my paintings that garnered all of the local media attention and press…to the great distaste of my fellow classmates.
Fact is I never asked for the attention, I was not a media hound, I did not do events, or spectacle art or acts, I did not have someone pour cans of paint on me while standing in a box in the city square, and I was not the one to do civic projections on walls.
I just spent hours and hours alone in my studio, occasionaly others would mill about, but usually several hundreds of hours…I was the only one who often slept overnight in my studio in a recliner i had brought in…and I never wore designer jeans or fancy shirts (sometimes i wondered if I had wandered into the fashion program), and i never drove a fancy car…I just walked.
By the way, I was the only one who sold every painting, and I was the only one who obtained a gallery representation.
I still spent hours and hours alone in my studio.
Mind you I do get out to play from time to time , oh and to shower and shave. …I really do keep myself together.
And I continue to paint.
I think I am addicted to the smell of linseed oil?
Thanks.
Love the site
